White surf = Pacific Ocean
Brown surf = Wailua River
Preliminary data indicate that discharge in Hanalei River at the USGS gage upstream from Hanalei Bridge did not break the November 1995 record of 44,600 cubic feet per second (15.81 ft height). However, the peak water level height at the Hanalei Bridge did set a new record by a small margin (again, based on preliminary data). While this Kauai flood ranks as one of the most intense heavy rain events this decade, it still falls well short of the benchmark set by the November 2000 Big Island flood. During that event, the Kapapala Ranch rain gage in Kau recorded over 12 inches in three hours and more than 22 inches in six hours.
